Coming home from campus today, I saw a group of people crossing the road and thought “wow, even though the traffic is bad, it’s still dangerous because the motorbikes are still zooming past the sides of the cars.” But then I realized that I was also sitting on my bike. I was also trying to find a way through the maze of cars and that there is no rules anymore in the roads of Jakarta. Pedestrians can’t even walk comfortably in the sidewalk, pollution spreading everywhere from the bus exhaust.
This city is harsh. Living in it makes me wonder what if the government just layed out strict rules about vehicles that travel on Jakarta everyday. Some of these vehicles are not even in the right condition to travel, and if it was the Western countries, these vehicles would be impounded and then destroyed.
Well I’ve lived most of my life in this city, aside from the heat and traffic everything else is magnificent and crazy at the same time.
